New York eSIM FAQs

Will my data work when I land in New York?

Yes. All 3 New York airports (JFK, Newark and LaGuardia) have mobile signal. Install your eSIM before you fly, skip the airport SIM hunt, and you'll be online before baggage reclaim.

  1. When you land, switch the eSIM line on and turn data roaming on for it.
  2. Set it as your mobile data line.
  3. That's it. You're ready to explore New York.

Which eSIM plan do I need for New York?

Any of our USA eSIM plans. They all cover New York and the rest of the country with unlimited data, so one plan does the whole trip.

Will my phone work on the subway?

Yes, in the stations. Underground subway stations have mobile signal and Wi-Fi, so check your route on the platform. Coverage in the tunnels between stations is still being added, and the L train tunnel under the East River is already connected.

Can I pay for the subway with my phone?

Yes. Tap a contactless card or your phone's wallet at the gate with OMNY. Stick to the same card or phone so transfers and the weekly fare cap count.

Do I need data to get into Manhattan from the airport?

It makes it much easier. From JFK, buy your LIRR ticket in the TrainTime app and check live subway times in the MTA app while you ride the AirTrain. From LaGuardia, the free Q70 LaGuardia Link runs nonstop to the subway at Jackson Heights in about 15 minutes, then on to Woodside for the LIRR.

Does it work if I fly into Newark or take day trips outside the city?

Yes. Our USA eSIM plans cover the whole country, so Newark Airport, New Jersey, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and beyond are all included.

Do your eSIM plans allow hotspot?

Yes. Share your data with your laptop or a travel buddy anywhere in New York.
