Local IP Unlimited Data eSIM Plans
Your phone gets the full local treatment from the moment you arrive. Searches, maps and recommendations come back local, so you fit right in on your next trip away.
Each Local IP plan gives you an IP address from the country you’re visiting, plus unlimited data to go with it. Such a combo isn’t common to find for travel eSIM plans. Pingy did the digging and picked out the best plans, so you stay connected without worrying about running out of data or roaming fees.

Local IP + Unlimited Data Travel eSIM Plans
A local IP with unlimited data is the best of both worlds. Not all plans are created equal, so Pingy has broken down the pros and cons to show you what makes a great combo.
- Plan max speed
- Gold standard No max speed, so you’ll go as fast as the network will take you.3/9 plans earn the crown
Across the travel eSIM market, max speeds are all over the map, and some plans dip below 1 Mbps.
Pingy draws the line at 1 Mbps and keeps it simple with 4 levels: 1 Mbps, 5 Mbps, 10 Mbps, or no max speed at all.
- Network speed
- Gold standard It’s simple, 5G it is.6/9 plans earn the crown
5G is the way to go, though some operators keep travel eSIMs on their 4G network.
Don’t worry, 4G still handles maps, messages and browsing like a champ.
- Daily throttling
- Gold standard No daily throttling, full speed all day long.9/9 plans earn the crown
Some plans slow down once you’ve used a set amount each day.
We reckon a trip is for exploring, not counting gigabytes, so Pingy has focused on plans without this limit.
- Hotspot allowance
- Gold standard Unlimited, works just like it does on your phone.8/9 plans earn the crown
Most plans let your laptop or travel buddy share whatever your phone gets. Our Japan Unlimited Data plans are the exception, with a set hotspot allowance for each plan you buy.

Travel eSIM routing, explained
Short version: your travel eSIM borrows a local network (the mobile company whose towers your phone connects to) for signal, but your data usually goes online somewhere else. Most travel eSIMs are roaming plans (they run on a carrier from another country). The local network hands your traffic to that carrier, and it hits the internet at the carrier’s hub (one central gateway serving lots of countries), often in another country. That exit is your IP Breakout (the country where your data joins the internet), and it’s the location websites see. Your SIM at home does exactly the same thing. It’s just been keeping quiet, because the exit is in your own country.
- Your phone in Italy
- Local network: TIM
- Carrier: Orange
- IP Breakout: France
- Websites see France
Your phone uses TIM’s towers in Italy. The eSIM’s APN (the setting that tells your data where to go) sends it to Orange, the carrier behind the plan, and it joins the internet in France. Bonjour.
- Your phone in Japan
- Local network and carrier: au (KDDI)
- IP Breakout: Japan
- Websites see Japan
au is both the local network and the carrier, so your data never leaves Japan. Konnichiwa.
Carriers use hubs because one exit for dozens of countries is simpler and cheaper than signing a deal in every single one. The APN on your eSIM (the setting that tells your data which exit to use) usually stays the same in every country, so you set it up once and keep going across borders, global eSIM plans included. The price of all that convenience is a bit of extra latency (a slight delay before pages and apps respond), and sites that go by your IP address (the internet address websites use to guess your location) think you’re somewhere else. So you can be hunting for lunch in Turkey while websites swear you’re in Hong Kong. Google uses your phone’s location when you allow it, so Maps still knows where you are.
Local IP plans break out (join the internet) in the country you’re in, so websites see where you actually are and latency is as low as it gets. They’re the gold standard, though they usually cost more and only some countries have them. Every plan on our site lists its IP Breakout, so you know exactly where your data’s heading before you buy.
| Hub routing | Local IP | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | A longer route, so a touch more latency (delay) | The shortest route, so the lowest latency |
| Countries | One plan can cover many countries | Selected destinations, one country per plan |
| Sites and apps | See you in the hub’s country | See you where you are |
| Price | Helps keep prices friendly | Often costs more, worth it to look like a local |
